Fairtrade Food Map

Age group: 6-12 years

How long it will take: 1 hour

What materials you will need:

  • An old sheet (preferably a light colour)
  • A fabric pen
  • Various Fairtrade and Co-op food wrappers
  • Glue

The aim of the activity: To explore some of the issues around Fairtrade.

What to do:
Draw a map of the world on the sheet, if you can get one an overhead project makes this much easier – simply project a map onto the sheet and draw round it.

Using the food wrappers talk about where the products came from and how Fairtrade will have helped the farmers in that country. Stick the wrappers on the map with lines pointing to the relevant country.

The Day Chocolate Company (www.divinechocolate.com) is offering free chocolate to anyone who helps promote Fairtrade in the workplace

“There are approximately 28,500,000 workers in the UK. If they all chose Fairtrade products there would be an enormous impact on millions of their co-workers in the developing world.”
