Age group: Pioneers

How long it will take: One evening

What materials you will need: none

The aim of the activity: To see a little of how the local Council works

What to do:
Most cities and towns have impressive town halls, with even more impressive council chambers, that hardly anyone sees.

Why not see if you can arrange to borrow the council chamber one evening, to stage your own Woodcraft Folk debate there. If you have contacts among the local councillors, ask if they can help you arrange this. They also be prepared to come along too, introduce the work of the council, and chair your own debate.

Topics for motions:
Discuss with the group an issue where there are likely to be a range of issues. For example:

  • We believe we should never eat meat at Woodcraft Folk camps
  • We believe that we should not play football at Woodcraft Folk nights, since this is a competitive sport which encourages winning
