Age group: Pioneers/Venturers

How long it will take: 30 minutes

What materials you will need: None

The aim of the activity: To explore images of war

What to do:
Split the group into small groups of about 5. Ask each group to make a freeze frame or 'photo' that they think shows war. These can then be shown to the other groups and the differences and similarities discussed. If all the 'photos' show soldiers ask about how civilians will feel.
Ask the groups to make another photo showing this.·

Ask the groups to make 'photos' showing alternatives to war. They could also show what the people would be doing if they weren't at war e.g. Children at school, adults at work.·

Someone from another group can be a 'journalist' unfreezing one person at a time and asking them what they are doing and how they feel. ·

Several 'photos' can be run together into a short play.
