Make a list of all the advertising you can find in your school. You might find teaching packs, books, competitions and projects which are sponsored by companies and carry their logos and adverts. There are also the 'collector' schemes like the crisp packets for book scheme.

For each advert, think about the following questions:

• Is the product health, safe and legal?
• Is it trying to get you to buy something?
• Are the facts and the opinions clearly separated?
• Is it relevant and does it have educational value?
• How does it make you feel about the company who are advertising?
• Why does the company spend money on this advertising?

Vending machines
Does your school have vending machines? If so you might like to try and find out what the deal is between the school and the vending machine company.
